My specialized training as a Marriage and Family Therapist allows me the ability to identify and understand problematic interactions and patterns in conflictual relationships. I am experienced not only in individual counseling, but also in working with more than one client in therapy sessions. Together we collaborate to break down the communication barriers, resolve your ongoing conflicts, and enhance your emotional and physical connection.

Rest assured though, if your partner is resistant to attending Couples Therapy or Marriage Counseling sessions with you, you can still benefit a great deal from Individual Counseling. By gaining insights, tips, and tools to strengthen your relationship, you can feel empowered and have a positive impact on the connection between you and your partner.

When providing relationship counseling services such as Couples Therapy, Pre-Marital Counseling, and Marriage Counseling, I use evidence-based and research-based models for which I have been trained by the founders. These models help to promote effective communication, emotional connection, trust, and successful conflict resolution. They include, but are not limited to:

Relationship Counseling Methodologies used at Counseling by Judy:

EMOTION-FOCUSED THERAPY

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is an approach to psychotherapy, founded by Dr. Sue Johnson, that focuses on exploring and working with your emotions in order to help you understand, express, and regulate your emotions in a healthy and adaptive manner. The EFT Model is based on the premise that your emotions play a crucial role in shaping your thoughts, behaviors, and overall well-being. EFT can help you identify and explore destructive patterns in your relationship and facilitate healing as well as a stronger connection with your partner.

GOTTMAN METHOD COUPLES THERAPY

The Gottman Method, founded by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, is based on extensive research and focuses on improving the quality your relationship by enhancing communication, managing conflict, and fostering intimacy. The method emphasizes building friendship and emotional connection, learning effective communication skills, and strengthening problem-solving methods. It also highlights the importance of understanding and managing emotions, building trust, and creating shared hopes and dreams within the relationship in order to strengthen the bond and promote a healthy, lasting relationship.

IMAGO RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

Imago Therapy, founded by Dr. Harville Hendrix, aims to improve communication and understanding between romantic partners. It is based on the belief that we are attracted to individuals who personify both the positive and negative traits of our caregivers from childhood. The approach focuses on helping you and your partner identify and understand your unconscious patterns of behavior and unresolved childhood issues that may contribute to conflicts and disconnection in your relationship. You can learn how to create a safe and supportive space from which to learn how to communicate effectively, empathize with each other's experiences, and work towards mutual healing, growth, and a deeper connection.
